The Konavle, the Music and the Word Festival was established in 2007 by the Konavle Art organization, led by Đuro Drobac and Matija Novaković, two academic musicians from Konavle.
The Festival is unique because events are held in several locations in towns and villages of the Konavle area: Cavtat, Čilipi, Pridvorje and Gruda. The intention has been to make top artistic achievements available to a wide audience and reveal new ambient locations in the process.
The annual gathering of Dalmatian male singing groups (such a group is called “klapa”) has been held in Cavtat since 2000. It was established by the Cavtat klapa “Ragusavecchia” and in the relatively short period of time has become one of the leading events of this kind in Croatia in terms of quality. It is very popular among members of these groups due to a friendly and warm atmosphere created by the hosts, unique stage location on the terrace of the Banac villa and a wonderful audience that recognizes and enjoys traditional Dalmatian tunes.
This festival is held on the first weekend of September and gathers 12 groups, mostly from the area of Dubrovnik. The second day is usually reserved for a concert of a guest group on the summer stage, in front of the St. Nicholas Church.

The carnival tradition in Cavtat is over a hundred years old. It was the famous Croatian painter, Vlaho Bukovac, who immortalized this tradition by painting “The Cavtat Carnival” (property of the Baltazar Bogišić Collection in Cavtat) at the turn of the 20th century.
The carnival organization Dominali has preserved this tradition through the Carnival Days of Cavtat, which is held during carnival days and honors local customs and traditions, and the Cavtat Summer Carnival, which is held on the last weekend of July. Easy-going fun is the trait of the summer carnival, with the performances of bands, street entertainers, jugglers and actors turning the whole town quay into a giant stage with a bit of fun for everyone.
